Terms of Service & License

Last updated: May 2026

Tempo v1.x is provided free of charge. You can use it for personal or commercial purposes. It comes with no warranty. You are responsible for the actions you trigger through it and for the scores you author, install, modify, or keep enabled.

License grant

You are granted a non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use Tempo on Macs you control, for any lawful purpose, at no cost. You may not redistribute, modify, reverse-engineer, or resell the Tempo application binary except as permitted by applicable law. You may freely write and share scores, configurations, and scripts that work with Tempo.

No warranty

Tempo is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. The author makes no guarantees that Tempo will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for your specific use case.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the author shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, revenue, profits, or business arising out of or in connection with your use of Tempo, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. Use Tempo at your own risk.

Scores and actions: you decide what runs

Tempo executes actions you trigger through "scores", small JSON files that declare the buttons attached to each event source. Tempo ships with a curated set of bundled scores installed and enabled by default so the application works on first launch; you can disable, modify, or remove any of them from Settings, and you can author your own or install additional ones from the public catalog.

In v1.x every action runs only when you click its button. Tempo does not fire any action on your behalf: a score declares what a button does, but Tempo never executes it autonomously. A fresh installation contains no auto-firing automation, and v1.x will never introduce one.

You are solely responsible for the actions you trigger and for the scores you author, install, modify, or keep enabled, including but not limited to: opening URLs, running Terminal commands, invoking AppleScripts, posting to third-party services, modifying system state, or interacting with HomeKit accessories. Tempo maintains a local audit log of every action you trigger so you can review what ran and when.

Community-contributed scores, whether downloaded from the public Tempo Scores catalog or dropped into your local Scores folder from any other source, carry the same responsibility. The reviewed catalog includes a security and sanity check by the Tempo team, but that review is not a warranty. The functional responsibility of a score lies with its author, and the decision to install, modify, or keep a score enabled lies with you.

Network ingestion

Tempo's ingestion server accepts events from other hosts on your local network, protected by per-provider authentication tokens. You are responsible for the security of your local network, for the sources you authorize to send events, and for the secrets you configure. Tempo's role is to receive and display what you've authorized; it cannot audit the intent of the senders on your behalf.

Third-party software

Tempo uses and bundles third-party open source components, notably:

Each component is used under its respective license, preserved within the application bundle and reachable in this document. A consolidated About → Acknowledgements panel inside the app is planned for a future release.

Trademarks

"Tempo" and the tempoapp.app domain are claimed by the project author. You may refer to Tempo by name in blog posts, reviews, screenshots, and other commentary. Do not use the name or visual identity to imply endorsement of unrelated products or services.

Freeware status and future changes

Tempo v1.x is distributed free of charge forever. Future major versions (v2 and beyond) may introduce a paid tier; existing installs of v1.x will remain fully usable at no cost.

After v2 ships, v1.x will continue to receive security fixes only: no new features, no behavioural changes, no upgrades to existing functionality. Support for v1.x will move to community channels (Discord, GitHub Discussions); direct support from the publisher will be focused primarily on v2 and later releases.

Any change to licensing or pricing will be announced on tempoapp.app and in the application's release notes, with adequate notice.

Termination

The license granted above remains in effect for as long as you comply with these terms. If you materially breach the restrictions (for example, by redistributing or reselling the application binary without authorisation, or by reverse-engineering it outside of the limits permitted by applicable law), the license terminates automatically and you must cease using and distributing the affected copies. Termination does not waive any other remedy available under law.

You may stop using Tempo at any time by quitting the application and removing it from your Mac. There is nothing to cancel and no account to close on our side.

Jurisdiction

These terms are governed by the laws of Italy, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. If any provision is found unenforceable in your jurisdiction, the remaining provisions continue to apply.

If you are a consumer resident in the European Union, the United Kingdom, or any other jurisdiction whose laws grant you mandatory consumer rights that cannot be waived by contract, those rights remain in force and are not affected by the choice of Italian law above. You may bring a claim in the competent court of the country where you reside.
