License & Disclaimer

Last updated: April 2026

Tempo is provided free of charge. You can use it for personal or commercial purposes. It comes with no warranty, and anything it does on your behalf — including anything you configure it to automate — is your responsibility.

License grant

You are granted a non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use Tempo on Macs you control, for any lawful purpose, at no cost. You may not redistribute, modify, reverse-engineer, or resell the Tempo application binary except as permitted by applicable law. You may freely write and share scores, configurations, and scripts that work with Tempo.

No warranty

Tempo is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. The author makes no guarantees that Tempo will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for your specific use case.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the author shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, revenue, profits, or business arising out of or in connection with your use of Tempo, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. Use Tempo at your own risk.

Automation: you are the author

Tempo is built to execute automations — "scores" — that you author, install, or enable within the application. Tempo does not create, enable, or execute any score on your behalf. A fresh installation contains zero active automations.

You are solely responsible for the scores you create, install, or run, and for the actions they perform, including but not limited to: opening URLs, running Terminal commands, invoking AppleScripts, posting to third-party services, modifying system state, or interacting with HomeKit accessories. Tempo maintains a local audit log of automatic actions so you can review what happened and when.

Community-contributed scores — whether downloaded from the public Tempo Scores catalog or dropped into your local Scores folder from any other source — carry the same responsibility. The reviewed catalog includes a security and sanity check by the Tempo team, but that review is not a warranty. The functional responsibility of a score lies with its author, and the decision to install any score lies with you.

Network ingestion

Tempo's ingestion server accepts events from other hosts on your local network, protected by per-provider authentication tokens. You are responsible for the security of your local network, for the sources you authorize to send events, and for the secrets you configure. Tempo's role is to receive and display what you've authorized; it cannot audit the intent of the senders on your behalf.

Third-party software

Tempo uses and bundles third-party open source components (SwiftUI, SQLite, Sparkle for updates, and others). These are used under their respective licenses. Full attribution is available in the application's About → Acknowledgements panel once shipped.

Trademarks

"Tempo" and the tempoapp.app domain are claimed by the project author. You may refer to Tempo by name in blog posts, reviews, screenshots, and other commentary. Do not use the name or visual identity to imply endorsement of unrelated products or services.

Freeware status and future changes

Tempo is distributed free of charge during the current release cycle. If a future major version introduces a paid tier, existing installs of free versions will remain usable at no cost. Any change to licensing or pricing will be announced on tempoapp.app and in the application's release notes, with adequate notice.

Jurisdiction

These terms are governed by the laws of Italy, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. If any provision is found unenforceable in your jurisdiction, the remaining provisions continue to apply.

If you are a consumer resident in the European Union, the United Kingdom, or any other jurisdiction whose laws grant you mandatory consumer rights that cannot be waived by contract, those rights remain in force and are not affected by the choice of Italian law above. You may bring a claim in the competent court of the country where you reside.
